The “Modern First” Collector. Something unexpected happened to the world of book collecting in the s. The Yale Collection of American Literature documents the creative lives, the artistic communities, and the literary achievements of American writers. The collection is noted for its bibliographical and archival strength in nineteenth- twentieth- and twenty-first-century poetry, fiction, and dramatic writings.

Simultaneously, the artist book became a significant tool for artists to express social and political ideas and promote revolution. Recent acquisitions with research potential for a range of disciplines are featured in this exhibition.
Formats include children’s books, family letters, journals, fine book design, posters, research notes, clothing, board games, and printed ephemera. On view Jan. 6 to April is a suite of resources - available to everyone in Illinois at no charge - that supports local authors with online creation and publishing tools and allows readers to access locally-produced content.
